Gardening on Granite
This privately published book tells the story of Theodora Berg and the gardens that Dan Snow and I made for her on a mountaintop in southern New Hampshire over a twenty-five year period. It is a companion book to The Accidental Architect, a book that recounts the story of making the extraordinary house around which I made gardens. This account, which starts in 1986 and concludes some twenty-five years later, is a sequential story of how this remarkable five-acre garden came into being. The story ranges across New England along with four trips to Old England looking for artifacts and inspiration. At the same time, this is an account of the many gardeners who worked on and off for over twenty years to make and then maintain this extraordinary mountaintop garden.
