Whether you are just starting to design a garden, have just started working with a designer, or have an existing garden that lacks coherence, this design workshop will suit your needs. Gordon Hayward aims to help you develop the framework and perhaps some of the major plantings of a specific area around your home. With Gordon’s assistance, you'll explore a variety of ways to tie your house to existing or planned gardens so the two work together seamlessly. Above all, this is a workshop about garden framework, structure and organization of space. Gordon will present ideas through a slide-illustrated lecture on how to design your garden in harmony with your house. Gordon will also work with each participant personally on the development of his or her design while others look over Gordon’s shoulder to see how the design process works for ten different gardens. At the end of the workshop you will walk away with a design that will help relate all your garden areas into a coherent whole. The workshop is limited to 10 participants to ensure there is time for personal attention for everyone.
Please bring to this session your personal drawing supplies (pencils, erasers, ruler), and any photographs you have of your home and existing gardens. It is essential that you bring a 2' x 3' sheet of paper on which you have sketched or created a proper scaled drawing of the area on which you want to focus. The entire workshop is based on this sketch, so please be certain to follow through on this requirement. Be sure to include the house or part of it so you can see how to link house to garden. Drawing supplies will be available to those who do not have them. Gordon’s books will be available for purchase and signing during the workshop.
